Caring for Vulnerable Children

Primarily due to HIV/AIDS in Sub-Saharan Africa, a generation of orphans and vulnerable children has arisen. These children mostly live in spiritual darkness without the true knowledge of the gospel of Jesus Christ and their physical needs are grave. What COFIM does is identify these children and of first importance share the gospel of Jesus Christ with them. As we meet their physical needs (e.g. food, clothing, education), COFIM seeks to continue to share the gospel of Christ through discipleship.

How do we do this? COFIM partners with carefully selected local churches and trains them in effective and biblical compassion ministry. Working with the trained local churches the physical needs of the children are used as an outreach or a tool to share the gospel with the children and some of their extended relatives. The love of Christ is exemplified through the church developing relationships with these children that point them to the greater love of Christ.

We see this ministry directly tied to our pastoral training ministry in that as some of these children and their relatives come to Christ (God willing), they are discipled in churches that are biblically sound. Eventually after a long period of discipleship we seek to provide self-sustaining projects to these orphan families so that they do not continuously depend upon us. We strongly believe in preaching Christ first to the orphans so that they may grow in the knowledge and grace of God as the giver and sustainer of all things.
